About the role:
The Cell Culture Technician will be responsible for the daily upkeep and management of all cell lines used in house. We currently have over 40 lines cryopreserved, and maintain an average of 10-12 active lines that require daily care.
This role entails passaging, freezing, thawing, seeding, harvesting, counting, and verifying target protein expression of lines via Flow Cytometry (FACS). The successful candidate will also frequently carry out cell-based biopanning, experimental data analysis, and various molecular biology workflows.
Duties:
- Cell line management: Passaging, freezing, thawing, harvesting, and counting cells
- Checking target protein expression on Flow Cytometry
- Performing cell-based biopanning of phage-display libraries
- Maintaining cell stocks in LN2 tanks
- Procurement of new cells lines for current projects
- Maintenance of lab equipment necessary for cell culture work
- Ordering and changing CO2 cylinders
- Experimental data analysis and packaging for internal and client projects
- Additional molecular assays as needed
Qualifications:
- Education: MSc in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Immunology, or related field
- Minimum 2 years of relevant cell culture experience in an academic, research or industry setting
- Flow Cytometry (FACS) and FlowJo experience required; ELISA and BLI experience an asset
- Strong aseptic/sterile technique
- Experience with handling compressed gas cylinders (CO2)
- Experience procuring cell lines
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team to develop and optimize workflows
- MS Office Suite, SnapGene, R, an asset
