Civil Estimator (Vancouver Island Relocation) Jobs in British Columbia, Canada at Torus Talent
Our client, a leading civil construction firm with decades of experience delivering large-scale infrastructure projects across British Columbia, is seeking a Civil Estimator to join their team on Vancouver Island. This is a hybrid position offering long-term stability, career growth, and the chance to contribute to high-profile projects in the region. Relocation assistance is available.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for civil infrastructure projects, including road construction, underground utilities, bridges, and run-of-river hydroelectric work
- Review drawings, specifications, and site conditions to develop quantity take-offs and pricing strategies
- Utilize estimating software to produce detailed bids and proposals
- Identify and pursue bid opportunities in both public and private sectors
- Collaborate with the General Manager and other Estimators to review tenders and refine estimates
- Maintain databases of suppliers, subcontractors, unit costs, and productivity benchmarks
- Participate in pre-construction planning, bid reviews, and post-award project kick-offs
- Provide estimating support to project teams during execution, as needed
Ideal Candidate Requirements:
- 3+ years of experience in civil estimating, preferably in roadworks, bridges, excavation, underground utilities, or hydro projects
- Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Technology; Gold Seal certification is an asset
- Proficiency with HeavyBid estimating software; experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D is a plus
- Strong grasp of unit costs, labor productivity, and local market pricing
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and communication skills
