Job Title: Data Scientist
Location: Toronto, ON- Hybrid
Duration: 12 months of contract
Role Overview:
We are looking for an experienced Data Scientist with strong expertise in Banking and Capital Markets to drive data-driven decision-making initiatives. This role involves working with complex financial datasets, building statistical and machine learning models, and supporting key functions such as risk, compliance, and regulatory reporting.
The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical capabilities, hands-on experience with SQL and Python, and the ability to translate business and regulatory requirements into actionable insights and scalable solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze large and complex datasets within banking and capital markets to identify trends and generate insights
- Develop, validate, and deploy statistical models and machine learning solutions
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate financial and regulatory requirements into analytical outputs
- Support risk, compliance, and regulatory use cases (e.g., stress testing, credit risk modeling)
- Perform data exploration, feature engineering, and model evaluation
- Design, optimize, and maintain complex SQL queries for efficient data processing
- Develop analytical workflows using Python and relevant libraries
- Create dashboards, visualizations, and reports to communicate findings effectively
- Ensure data quality, accuracy, and adherence to governance and regulatory standards
Required Qualifications:
Must-Have Skills:
- 10+ years of experience as a Data Scientist or Data Analyst
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Banking or Capital Markets calculations
- 5+ years of strong SQL expertise (complex queries, performance tuning)
- 2+ years of hands-on Python experience
- Experience working with large structured and unstructured datasets
- Strong foundation in statistics, data analysis, and predictive modeling
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Solid understanding of financial products, markets, and industry datasets
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks and financial reporting
- Experience with visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.)
- Basic familiarity with AI/LLMs and tools such as Copilot
Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
- Ability to work independently and collaborate in cross-functional teams
- High attention to detail with a focus on data integrity and governance
- Capability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required (advanced degrees are a plus)
