Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Director of Care, the Health Care Aide (HCA) is a regulated member of the interprofessional health care team who provides ongoing client care. The HCA observes, monitors, and reports on client status/condition including changes in physical and emotional status. The HCA ensures that changes in client status are reported to the Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

This position delivers prescribed medications accurately as per policy and procedure, maintaining professional and ethical standards at all times.

Program Summary

Complex Care – for frail seniors who require the care of an interdisciplinary team to maintain and improve quality of life in safe, comfortable and supportive environments. Carewest offers a mix of secured and unsecured units.

Qualifications and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required, plus graduation from an Alberta Government recognized Health Care Aide program
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English is required
  • Must be physically capable of managing the frequent lifting, transferring and repositioning of clients
  • Active and current registration with CLHA required
  • Related experience in a health care facility is an asset
  • Program-specific training/experience is an asset

Employees are required to use technologies, devices, resources, and systems provided by the employer, as per Carewest policy and procedure. Adherence to relevant privacy legislation and best practice including HIA, ATIA, POPA, and Info Care Behaviours, is required.

Successful applicants not currently working for Carewest will need to provide a suitable police records check and vulnerable sector screen. Successful applicants may need to provide immunization records for positions in certain environments.
