Position Details
Job Title: Industrial Millwright
Reports to: Area Manager
Job Type: Permanent
Location: Nanticoke, Ontario
Salary Range: $88,000–$120,000
About the role
Safety is the Core Value of Stelco and the individual will make Safety the #1 priority in the execution of all work activities, including monitoring contractor/vendor safety in support of work efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Handle, transport, and process product and materials using equipment
- Operate and inspect material handling equipment (such as overhead & mobile cranes)
- Operate and inspect light mobile equipment (such as forklifts, pickup trucks)
- Operate mechanical equipment (e.g., pipe threader, cut off saw)
- Operate and inspect hand‑held equipment (e.g., torches, oxygen lances, pneumatic/power actuated tools and hand tools)
- Maintain or repair operating equipment
- Clearly communicate completed tasks by producing a daily log (verbal/written/computerized)
- Read and interpret blueprints/drawings, produce rough sketches (abbreviations, symbols for machining/welding/assembly, tolerances)
- Set up and perform alignments on equipment
- Demonstrate good housekeeping practices at all times to help maintain a safe work area
- Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems, compressors, pumps and turbines
- Work with heavy industrial equipment
Job Qualifications
- Industrial Millwright Certificate of Qualification (433A)
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an industrial environment
- Previous work experience in a unionized environment is an asset
Job Skills & Knowledge
- Temperature tolerance – withstand extreme temperatures
- Reaction time – quickly respond to process upsets
- Static strength – exert significant muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects
- Trunk strength – use abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time, including bending and stooping
- Dynamic strength – exert muscle force at intervals throughout a work shift with endurance and resistance to fatigue
- Agility – negotiate different areas of the plant, including climbing stairs and ladders, and moving around barriers
- Manual dexterity – quickly move and react
Work Environment Requirements
The job is within a heavy industrial environment and may be required to work in various areas of the facility. Depending on the area, conditions may be hot, cold, dirty, dusty, wet or noisy. All work must be performed in accordance with established safety procedures and guidelines and requires the use of company‑issued personal protective equipment such as hard hats, eye protection, hearing protection, respirators, flame‑resistant clothing, and safety footwear with metatarsal protection throughout the shift.
Employees work in a unionized and heavy industrial setting. Expected work schedule is 12‑hour shifts, rotating days and nights on a continental pattern, including weekends and holidays, as the Lake Erie Works facility operates 24h per day, 365days a year. Overtime may be required. Punctuality and attendance are extremely important.
