Position Title: Laboratory Technician, Research & Development
Location: Mississauga, ON, Canada. On-site 5 days per week, 9am – 5pm.
Reporting to: David Crisante – Lead Scientist, Research & Development

We are seeking a highly motivated Laboratory Technician to support daily R&D activities across microbial strain engineering, fermentation, and laboratory operations. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone looking to build experience in industrial biotechnology, synthetic biology, and bioprocess development within a fast-growing startup environment.
Role Overview:
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute molecular biology workflows including cloning, plasmid preparation, PCR, transformations, and strain screening
- Support microbial strain engineering projects
- Prepare media, buffers, reagents, and fermentation feed solutions
- Conduct shake flask and bench-scale fermentation experiments
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment including bioreactors, centrifuges, spectrophotometers, incubators, autoclaves, and analytical instruments
- Perform routine analytical measurements including OD600, dry cell weight, pH, and HPLC
- Assist with downstream product purification studies.
- Maintain accurate experimental records and support data analysis and reporting
- Assist with inventory management, ordering, lab organization, and maintaining clean laboratory operations
- Follow biosafety, chemical safety, and laboratory SOPs
- Support process scale-up activities and experimental optimization projects
Qualifications & Experience:
- BSc, or MSc in biotechnology, microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, chemical engineering, or related field with at least 2 years of laboratory experience
- Hands-on laboratory experience through academic research, internships, co-op placements, or industry experience
- Familiarity with molecular biology techniques and fermentation workflows is considered an asset
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently while contributing within a collaborative startup environment
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced R&D setting with evolving priorities
