Reporting to the Director of Business Development, the Marketing & Communications Coordinator plays a pivotal role in advancing Bird’s business development objectives, strengthening relationships with industry partners, and elevating our visibility across Northern Alberta. Working closely with the Northern Alberta Buildings group, this role drives strategic marketing, communications, and engagement initiatives that contribute directly to the district’s growth and brand presence.

This position is responsible for planning and executing high‑impact events, supporting community engagement activities, and ensuring Bird presents a consistent, professional, and recognizable brand across all internal and external channels. Through storytelling, content creation, digital coordination, and collaboration with internal teams, the coordinator helps reinforce Bird’s identity and highlight our people, projects, and successes.

This role will be based out of the Edmonton office.

What You Will Be Working On

Strategic Marketing & Communications

  • Collaborate with Business Development on adaptable marketing and communication strategies aligned with changing market conditions.
  • Identify, evaluate, and prepare submissions for relevant industry awards (in partnership with Corporate and Proposals teams).
  • Write compelling project-related content for magazines, award submissions, and social media.
  • Support the development and delivery of the annual marketing plan and budget for the Northern Alberta Buildings Group.
  • Track all expenses related to Marketing and Business Development, including (but not limited to) Advertising & Publications, Events and Conferences, Sponsorships, Memberships, Donations, etc.

Brand Awareness & Community Engagement

  • Maintain association, events, conferences, and client registrations to expand Bird’s presence in the market.
  • Identify and pursue community engagement opportunities aligned with district business development goals.
  • Plan, promote, and execute marketing events including the annual charity golf tournament, industry appreciation events, tradeshows, volunteer initiatives, and other community activities.
  • Provide photography, videography, and basic editing support (asset).

Corporate Imaging & Digital Support

  • Support the corporate marketing team with imaging, branding, and campaign execution.
  • Implement district-specific communication strategies aligned with corporate standards (social media, advertising, etc.)
  • Work with Corporate Communications to maintain and enhance internal digital platforms, including websites and intranet portals.

Business Development Enablement

  • Work with the Business Development and Operations Teams in the preparation of marketing collateral (advertisements, one-pagers, brochures, posters, and general graphic design) and presentation materials (print and digital forms) while following brand standards to ensure consistent look and feel for all documents.
  • Support business development initiatives (client events, conferences, tradeshows, etc.) as required.
  • Oversee marketing material inventory and company swag
  • Support the ongoing tracking and maintenance of contact lists
  • Maintain business development content library of one-pagers, presentations, marketing material, client files and other documents.
  • Manage inventory of materials and company swag as required for the Business Development teams.
  • Coordinate annual corporate gift campaigns.

Industry & Vendor Relationship Management

  • Cultivate relationships with industry partners, especially client and trade partner marketing/communications teams.
  • Build and maintain relationships with promotional vendors.
  • Manage annual memberships with relevant industry associations.

Pursuit & Proposal Support

  • Maintain proposal photography libraries aligned with brand standards.
  • Identify and capture opportunities for project photography (milestones, awards, celebrations, groundbreakings, etc.).
  • Coordinate professional photography when required.
  • Support pursuit teams by creating project-related social media content to promote engagement and celebrate wins.
  • Assist Proposal teams in the project close-out process.

Internal & External Communications

  • Ensure consistent brand and messaging alignment with Corporate Communications.
  • Help enhance Bird’s visibility and market positioning within the buildings sector.
  • Create and submit social media stories for corporate posting (LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram).
  • Support One Bird initiatives by sharing best practices and district updates across the Communications Network.
  • Assist with internal communication channels (TV screens, email campaigns, bulletin boards, directives).
  • Update news stories and maintain the district SharePoint site, supporting other departments where necessary.

What We Are Looking For

  • 3-5 years’ experience in sales/business development environment with marketing experience with event management is considered an asset
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator) and Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Strong project management skills with an understanding of core business processes.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships.
  • Strong multitasking skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Positive, collaborative attitude with a strong sense of urgency and commitment to achieving goals.
  • Highly organized, adaptable, and able to perform under tight deadlines.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with industry associations
