About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Health Services Manager and under the clinical direction of the Clinical Lead, the clinical psychologist (PhD) will provide empirically supported assessment and treatment services to adults who have crossed legal sexual boundaries. The Forensic Sexual Behaviour Program (FSBP) offers specialized assessment and treatment services across Nova Scotia. Treatment is offered in four Health Zones across the province (Kentville, Dartmouth, Truro, Sydney);

assessment is centrally located in Dartmouth.

Responsibilities

  • Program development activities, research, and prevention initiatives.
  • Sexual recidivism risk/need assessment and facilitation of specialized group treatment.
  • Participation in team meetings and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Possible court testimony, when required.
  • Participation in the pre‑doctoral internship program and supervision of practicum students.
  • Provide services in accordance with CPA & NSBEP ethical standards, provincial guidelines, and relevant legislation.

Qualifications

  • PhD or PsyD in Clinical Psychology from an accredited university program.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia Regulator of Psychiatrists (NSRP) and in good standing.
  • Minimum of two years of related clinical experience, preferably in a forensic setting with sexual offenders.
  • Minimum of two years of research experience.
  • Experience with recidivism risk assessment tools and psychometric tests addressing personality and deception.
  • Expertise in DSM diagnosis and ability to provide expert witness testimony if subpoenaed.
  • Knowledge of PPG assessment.
  • Ability to work with antisocial, personality‑disordered, and op positional populations.
  • Ability to address ethical decisions regarding client rights and community risk on a regular basis.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with other disciplines (e.g., DCS, DOJ).
  • Competence in other languages is an asset;
    French preferred.

Hours & Compensation

  • Permanent, part‑time (20%) / 15 hours bi‑weekly.
  • Hourly pay: $54.04 – $69.24. (Registered – step 3: $60.80; Psychologist PhD – steps 4‑6: $64.18 – $69.24)
