Job Summary

Are you someone who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of others? We are hiring for a Casual Radiation Technologist, CT at Peace Arch Hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Performs examinations in CT in accordance with established procedures, including completing requisitions, correlating clinical history, positioning patients, performing venipuncture for contrast media injections, operating imaging equipment, labeling reports, and ensuring departmental standards.
  • Monitors patients during procedures, responding to possible contrast media reactions or emergent situations and performing CPR if required.
  • Facilitates the workflow of the designated work area by ensuring requisition information meets standards and arranging porters as necessary.
  • Performs quality control duties such as scheduling and performing equipment tests, recording results, and reporting malfunctioning equipment.
  • Maintains the designated work area, cleans equipment, sets up examination trays, stocks supplies, and notifies the supervisor as needed.
  • Demonstrates equipment procedures to staff and participates in orientation of new employees and supervision of students.
  • Responds to inquiries from other clinical areas regarding patient examinations and schedules.
  • Ensures health and safety rules, regulations and practices are met, reviewing changes to safety procedures and following up on recommendations.
  • Participates in program enhancements for the department such as quality improvement, protocol development, and committee representation.
  • Participates in approved research and special projects in collaboration with the supervisor.
  • Carries out responsibilities in accordance with health and safety requirements and reports unsafe situations immediately.
  • Maintains equipment operation, reports issues, and arranges maintenance and repairs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    Education, Training and Experience

    • Certification with the CAMRT.
    • Completion of an advanced specialty program in Computed Tomography and one (1) year of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
    • Completion of an Intravenous Therapy training course when required by site practice.
    • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification – Basic Life Support (BCLS) level.

    Skills and Abilities

    • Knowledge of CAMRT standards of practice and relevant national professional associations.
    • Knowledge of evidence‑based practice related to the designated modality.
    • Knowledge of organization policies, procedures and standards of care, including safety practices with modality equipment.
    • Knowledge of current CT theory and practices within a client/family centered model of care.
    • Knowledge of research process and methodology.
    • Knowledge of PACS/Radiology Information Systems.
    • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and ability to work effectively with clients, families, physicians and other health staff.
    • Ability to resolve conflict issues and work collaboratively.
    • Ability to work independently and manage workload priorities.
    • Proficiency in CT techniques and applicable equipment and supplies.
    • Proficiency in CPR techniques.
    • Computer skills with current computer applications.
    • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
