About

The Role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary part‑time Registered Nurse (Donor Centre Nurse) to join our dynamic Collections team in our Saint John, New Brunswick donor centre.

The Collections team supports Canadian Blood Services in collecting donor blood and blood components safely, providing patients with life‑saving products every day.

In this role you will assist in collecting blood and blood products, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and accurate documentation. You will play an integral part in building a positive donor experience and encouraging donations.

Formula for success

  • Deliver an exceptional donor experience using strong communication and client‑service skills during registration and confidential screening, ensuring eligibility and fostering trust.
  • Educate and empower donors by providing clear information, instructions, and guidance on blood donations and other ways to support Canada’s Lifeline.
  • Use your knowledge and experience to coach and consult donor centre staff, acting as team lead for collection events as needed.
  • Apply phlebotomy training to perform venipuncture according to established standards, monitor donors for safety and comfort, and provide post‑donation care and instruction.
  • Maintain complete and precise records across multiple systems—screening, collection, product storage, sample preparation, and packaging for shipment—to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Drive continuous improvement by sharing knowledge and supporting best practices that enhance processes and elevate the donor experience.
  • At mobile events, assist in setting up booths, tables, and other equipment to ensure donor clinics are properly set up for use.

Desired Education And Skills

  • Completion of an accredited nursing program and current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the province is required.
  • Two years of nursing experience and a certification in First Aid and CPR are considered assets.
  • Previous experience as a preceptor or in coaching others is an asset.
  • Technical skills including Microsoft Word and Outlook, and the ability to learn new systems and programs.
  • Ability to communicate in more than one language is an asset and enhances the quality of donor interactions.

What You Can Expect

  • Shifts/hours vary. Flexibility is required to accommodate assigned shifts based on operational needs; shift lengths vary according to the event at Canadian Blood Services fixed and mobile donor centres. Shifts include days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
  • Travel is required for mobile events; transportation will be provided by Canadian Blood Services.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to lift supplies and equipment in excess of 10 kg (22 lbs).
