CBC News is looking for a creative editorial leader with sharp news judgment, outstanding programming skills, and an audience-first mindset to lead the Late Dayside team at CBC News Network. In this pivotal role, you will shape compelling, platform-optimized content, with a strong emphasis on mobile and streaming audiences.
As Senior Producer, you will drive daily production operations with a hyper-focus on live and breaking news. You will conceive, plan, and shape dynamic news programming that brings compelling visual storytelling, captivating on-screen presentation, and immersive live experiences to our audience. You lean into data, and use it to drive audience-focused strategies for your team.
You are expected to steer daily editorial meetings, stimulate creative discussions, and identify the most impactful stories and treatments for the day. You must be able to react decisively to major news developments, track stories in real-time, reshape shows on the fly, create live content optimized for on-demand audiences, and seamlessly pivot to extended, wall-to-wall coverage when the news demands it.
Extensive control room skills and hands-on experience working within an automated broadcast environment are essential to succeed in this fast-paced setting.
Beyond production, the Senior Producer must be a change leader, able to galvanize and lead teams through transitions in priorities, roles and responsibilities. You must see change as an opportunity to evolve. Guiding a team of up to 15 staff members, you will provide meaningful, constructive feedback, guide complex editorial judgments, and actively teach advanced writing and producing skills. You are responsible for cultivating a highly creative, respectful, and inclusive newsroom culture.
Reporting to the Executive Producer of Live & Daily News, Dayside, you are accountable for driving CBC’s strategic goals, including working across platforms to drive stories to meet audience needs no matter where they consume our content. You ensure all programming is of the highest quality and strictly adheres to CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices. By collaborating seamlessly across all CBC platforms, you ensure we are always where the news is live, helping our audience make sense of the world from any device.
Key Tasks Editorial Direction:
Determine story priorities, develop innovative content strategies, and expertly guide teams through live, breaking, and ongoing news coverage. Guide the team on story length, deadlines, updates, and visual treatments.
Live
Experience:
Develop & practise a culture of embracing breaking news and leaning into developing stories with a disciplined focus on audience needs and CBC News strategy. Collaborate with radio, streaming and digital to ensure a full live experience across all platforms.
Manage Production & Broadcast:
Exercise editorial responsibility over daily production and live broadcasting. Co-ordinate resources and determine the look, style, and pace of the lineup to maintain consistency with network mandates. Thrive under intense deadline pressures.
Supervise Assignments:
Oversee the daily writing, researching, gathering, editing, and distribution of content to ensure alignment with the CBC News editorial strategy and opportunities for cross-platform collaboration.

Drive continuous improvement, agile and adaptable in transforming newsroom structures and roles and lead transitions. You understand what motivates people. You welcome feedback and carefully consider that input as you align your team around shared goals. You celebrate success.
