Project Engineer Specialist

The Project Engineer Specialists will be part of the Lines and Interconnection (L&I) team within Engineering Services. This is a high‑impact role where you will lead the engineering delivery for massive infrastructure initiatives, including the North Coast Transmission Line project, new industrial submissions, and large‑scale substation upgrades.
In this role you will manage the Scope, Schedule, and Cost for technically complex projects (often exceeding $100M) that connect LNG mines and large industrial customers to our client’s grid. While based in Burnaby, you will travel to facilities across B.C. and potentially internationally to oversee project milestones.
Responsibilities
- Lead Engineering Delivery:
Manage the engineering component of large‑scale industrial projects, ensuring designs are safe, effective, and compliant with standards. - Owner’s Engineer Lead:
Coordinate and lead internal reviews for work designed by third‑party consultants or vendors, maintaining ultimate accountability for technical acceptance. - Cross‑Functional
Collaboration:
Partner with Project Managers to manage technical risks, system integration, and resource requirements.
- Technical Oversight:
Oversee the development of technical specifications and drawings. Support Construction and Field Operations teams during manufacturing, commissioning, and troubleshooting. - Strategic Communication:
Prepare and present recommendations on complex project matters to senior leadership and executives. - Mentorship:
Coach and mentor junior project engineers and multidisciplinary project team members to resolve technical bottlenecks.
Qualifications
- 10 years of progressive engineering experience in large‑scale industrial projects (e.g., mines, substations, oil & gas, utilities).
- At least 4 years leading multi‑discipline design teams on medium‑to‑large projects, managing the full project life cycle from conceptual design through commissioning.
- Primary focus in substations, transmission lines, or protection & control (P&C).
- Experience with telecom or environmental/terrain‑specific challenges is a significant asset.
- Robust understanding of PM processes and ability to influence internal and external stakeholders.
Additional Requirements
- Must maintain a valid Class 5 Driver’s License in good standing.
- Requires pre‑qualification alcohol and drug testing.
- Willingness to travel throughout British Columbia (frequency varies by project stage, typically once per month to once per quarter).
Education and Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) status and proof of Permit to Practice, registered with EGBC when hired.
