Position Summary
The Project Coordinator (0.5 FTE) / Registered Nurse (0.5 FTE) Community STBBI Outreach Project provides both program leadership and direct clinical care in support of Siksika Health Services’ (SHS) Community Sexually Transmitted and Blood-Borne Infections (STBBI) Outreach initiative.
This blended role integrates project coordination, community engagement, and clinical nursing practice to deliver culturally grounded, accessible, and holistic STBBI prevention, testing, treatment, and follow-up services within Siksika Nation.
In the Project Coordinator capacity (0.5 FTE), the incumbent is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating the Community STBBI Outreach Project, ensuring alignment with SHS strategic priorities, funding requirements, and community needs.
In the Registered Nurse capacity (0.5 FTE), the incumbent provides comprehensive STBBI screening, assessment, point-of-care testing (POCT) for HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis C (HCV), treatment initiation (as authorized), harm reduction services, case management, and linkage to on- and off-Nation care.
The position supports implementation of innovative initiatives such as “Our Healthbox,” expanding access to harm reduction supplies and confidential self-testing options. The role requires strong leadership, clinical expertise, cultural competency, and the ability to balance operational coordination with hands-on community-based nursing care.
Responsibilities include, but will not be limited to:
A. Project Coordinator Responsibilities (0.5 FTE)
1. Project Planning and Implementation
- Develop, implement, and monitor annual work plans aligned with SHS objectives and funding deliverables.
- Coordinate daily operations of the Community STBBI Outreach Project, including mobile and pop-up clinics at community locations.
- Support implementation and oversight of the “Our Healthbox” initiative.
- Ensure integration of outreach services with SHS programs including Primary Care, Mental Health, and Harm Reduction.
- Identify service gaps and recommend program improvements.
2. Community Engagement and Outreach
- Promote community awareness of STBBI services using culturally relevant communication strategies.
- Coordinate community education sessions, outreach events, and prevention initiatives.
- Engage youth, schools, Elders, and community partners in health promotion activities.
- Ensure services reflect the culture, language, traditions, and values of the Siksika Nation.
3. Staff and Partner Collaboration
- Coordinate team meetings and outreach schedules.
- Maintain collaborative relationships with internal programs and external HIV/HCV specialists.
- Support streamlined access to specialist care and diagnostic services.
- Facilitate multidisciplinary case discussions when appropriate.
4. Monitoring, Reporting, and Quality Improvement
- Oversee data collection and reporting for funding and performance monitoring.
- Participate in evaluation and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Prepare reports and updates for SHS leadership and funding partners.
- Ensure confidentiality and compliance with privacy legislation.
5. Financial and Resource Management
- Assist with monitoring project budgets and expenditures.
- Coordinate procurement and inventory management of testing supplies and harm reduction materials.
- Support funding renewal applications and reporting requirements.
B. Registered Nurse Responsibilities (0.5 FTE)
1. Clinical and Outreach Services
- Provide STBBI screening, assessment, testing, counseling, treatment, and follow-up in accordance with SHS policy, provincial guidelines, and CRNA standards.
- Conduct point-of-care testing (POCT) for HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis C (HCV).
- Initiate and prescribe treatment as authorized.
- Conduct specimen collection, immunizations (where applicable), wound care, and related nursing interventions.
- Deliver services through mobile and pop-up outreach clinics and flexible appointment options within Siksika Nation boundaries.
- Respond to phone and text referrals to improve accessibility of care.
2. Care Coordination and Case Management
- Coordinate referrals for diagnostic testing and specialist consultation.
- Advocate for community members accessing HIV, HCV, and other STBBI-related care.
- Facilitate linkage to on- and off-Nation services.
- Support partner notification and public health collaboration as required.
- Provide follow-up care and ongoing case management.
3. Harm Reduction and Health Promotion
- Deliver culturally informed education and counseling on STBBI prevention and safer sexual health practices.
- Support individuals accessing “Our Healthbox” in connecting with SHS services if follow-up care is desired.
- Promote trauma-informed, culturally safe, and client-centered care.
- Address stigma and barriers to accessing testing and treatment.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor of Nursing (BN or BScN) required.
- Current registration and good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
- Authorized prescriber status or willingness to obtain within 6 months.
- Additional education in Public Health, Project Management, or Community Health is an asset.
- Project management training or certification (asset).
- Minimum 2–3 years of recent nursing experience, preferably in community health, sexual health, or harm reduction.
- Experience coordinating community-based programs or outreach initiatives preferred.
Other Requirements
- Valid Driver’s license with reliable transportation
- Full criminal record clearance, vulnerable sector check, and immunization records required
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, to meet community needs.
- Ability to speak an Indigenous language and knowledge of Indigenous culture, an asset
- Moderate knowledge of the philosophy and issues regarding the delivery of First Nation health care
